Everything for Dogs
Stacey Savige, had an early morning request for her neighbor Yolanda Sevogia. She wanted to know if Yolanda could watch the dog she had discovered at the local elementary school. She agreed to watch the rescued dog for one day. Both women got busy trying to find the dog’s owner and printed and distributed over 4,000 “Found” fliers and even put an ad on Craigslist.
Yolanda purchased some food and supplies for the dog. She while hoping her two sons Azaiah (10) and Christian (21) would not want to keep the dog. Christian had recently had surgery for his heart and kidneys related to Down’s Syndrome and other medical conditions.
After four days Yolanda and her family were still caring for the dog who they had named RaeLee (pronounced Riley). That day as she came up to the house, RaeLee started barking frantically and threw himself up against the screen door. Once he had her attention, RaeLee ran into the boy’s room where Christian was having a severe seizure. The dog ran over to her son and as soon as Yolanda started to help Christian, RaeLee stopped barking.

Obesity in dogs is as bad as being obese in humans. All the extra weight your dog is carrying around will eventually affect your dog’s other organs. And when there is too much work for each of your dog’s organs, certain medical conditions will occur, and this often leads to death.
It is very important that owners are aware of the seriousness caused by canine obesity. In this post, we will be listing the most common medical conditions obesity can bring to your pets.
More or less, one out of every four overweight dog develops some joint issues. Under normal conditions, bones, ligaments, muscles, and tendons function together to allow your dog to walk smoothly and efficiently. However, if they carry extra weight around, they become overworked and eventually damaged. The condition is called arthritis.
Furthermore, the increased weight can also affect the ligaments. Ligaments are an important part of the skeletal system since they connect one bone to the other. This knee ligament is prone to wear and tear and once it’s torn, the knee becomes unstable. Your dog will become reluctant to use it because it is also painful. The only way to repair a torn ligament is surgery.
A slipped disc is another disease that can occur if your dog is carrying all that extra weight around. Some dog breeds, like Dachshunds, are prone to developing this painful condition. So if you own one, see to it that they don’t become overweight.
Dogs can develop diabetes too. When a dog is obese, the extra weight will cause the body to increase insulin production. This is in response to the increased glucose level in the overweight dog. If the body is no longer able to supply the insulin needed, diabetes will occur.
Obesity causes hypertension in dogs which often results in the increased workload of the heart. This condition will eventually lead to congestive heart failure.
It’s tough to decide when to take your pets to see the vet, more so if it’s right in the middle of the night or on the weekend. However, certain medical conditions warrant emergency vet care. Read on so you can learn more about these conditions to help you recognize and decide when to take your dog.
Dyspnea or having difficulty in breathing is an emergency. Your dog can exhibit choking signs, wheezing, or you may notice your dog is breathing from his mouth. Dyspnea can be because of several factors and should be considered a medical emergency.
Factors such as a lodged foreign material in the throat, a lung or heart problem, or an allergic reaction that’s severe – can all lead to dyspnea.
Although the lack of appetite is not an immediate emergency, if it’s more than 24 hours already, it’s time to head to the vet. As with humans, we lose our appetite if we are under the weather or in pain. It goes the same with our canine friends. The downside to this is that it can usually cause dehydration and general muscle control.
When I heard about this story, I remembered a comic scene on TV where a passenger vehicle stopped to let a lady ride. The lady was with a child and asked, “Are children free to ride”? Then without any hesitation, the driver, of course, said yes. The driver wondered when the lady asked him to wait. The lady rushed to her house, opened the door, and then a wave of kids entered the vehicle, occupying all the space.
The driver absolutely didn’t see it coming, just like what happened to Sebastian Bushey, a 28-year-old construction worker in Washington State. He was near the Grande Ronde River heading home from work when he saw a puppy some 75 yards off the road. It was burning hot, at around 105 degrees, that afternoon and the poor puppy must be very hungry or thirsty.
