“This is just another great reminder about the importance of microchips and making sure your dogs chip is registered and with current information,” the shelter added. “It’s also a great reminder that if you find a stray dog that they get scanned for a microchip, because they may have a family out there who’s missing them like crazy!”
The Wieferich family had got Bambi when she was about 7-8 months old. Before she went missing Bambi had been leaving the house secretly after the other family dog had passed away from cancer. The family got another pup to stay with Bambi but she ended up running away within 6 months.
Family gives up Hope
Despite searching their neighborhood for their dog, they were unable to find Bambi. The family guessed that Bambi must have either passed as well or found a new home.
When Bradley went to the shelter he didn’t recognize Bambi when he saw her. Once she let out a howl, he knew for sure it was her.
“She was ready to come home,” he told the outlet, adding that although many years has passed, the dog is settling back into their home “better than expected.”
